'Project Runway' episode 8: Auf wiedersehen, Ben Chmura!
The designers had to create looks based on the four natural elements: earth, fire, air and water. The guest judge was Captain Planet -- or should've been. Anywho, Chmura chose water and opted to make a gray, shark-inspired pantsuit complete with shark teeth sewn to the cuffs. Early on, he acknowledged that the look probably was too ambitious; Jay finished early and had to help Chmura put the finishing touches on the suit. But Chmura still couldn't make it work.
So clearly, Chmura was in trouble. He landed in the bottom two with Amy, but I was sure it was she who'd get the boot. After all, Klum said Amy's model looked like "a cat in a baby sling." How could Amy not go home? But somehow, the judges sent Chmura packin'.
Chmura admitted, "I think I bit off more than I could chew" and teared up as he said good-bye to the remaining contestants. In his exit interview, Chmura added, "Even though my time is up, I would not trade it in for anything in the world. ... This isn't the last you'll hear from me. I'll be around. I'll still be doing what I love to do. It's one of those passions that you just can't get rid of."
In case you're curious, Jonathan won the night's challenge with a flowy, pale pink gown representing air.
Sigh. It's too bad Chmura left the show this week. This was the first episode that really showcased his personality. We even got to see a heartfelt phone call to Chumra's partner, Bobby Pappadeas.
So Divas, this ends my weekly Project Runway recap on the blog. What do you think Chmura should do next? And now that he's off the show, will you still watch?
