With Reknit, turn your old sweater into something better
I love this idea: Gayane Avanian loves to knit -- so much so that if you mail an old sweater and $30 to her Boston home, she'll unravel the sweater and reknit it into something more stylish, like a scarf or gloves. She calls her business Reknit, natch.
I'm so going to use Reknit. I have a turtleneck sweater that was a gift from my late grandmother. It's too warm for Florida and not quite my style, so I never wear it. Although I'm a knitter, unraveling a sweater seems way too tedious. I'd gladly spend $30 to have it re-purposed into something I'd actually use, like a pair of socks.
Reknit has a ton of gifting potential, too. Turn your sister's tattered dress turned into a jacket for her baby, or remake your dad's stretched-out scarf into a laptop case.
Avanian offers a new item every month. For March, she's turning people's sweaters into hats. She accepts only 30 orders a month, so act fast. To learn more, listen to this adorable NPR interview with Avanian and her son Haik, who runs Reknit.com.
Divas, what would you reknit?
