Rubber gloves? Ikea bags? Call it fashion!
You know those mornings when you peer hopelessly into the abyss that is your closet and can find NOTHING to wear? Well, some local artists and design students have your solution. Go check the recycling bin!
This weekend the Florida Craftsmen Gallery, 501 Central Ave. in St. Petersburg, unveils an exhibit of one-of-a-kind clothes and accessories made from re-purposed materials, including rubber gloves, hardware, wire and zippers. Sponsored in part by IKEA, you might just see some of the furniture warehouse's inspiration in the garments.
Outfits were made by independent local designers and students and faculty from the International Academy of Design and Technology, shoes tackled by students from the Bayshore High School and Arts Academy and hand-dyed fabric panels from the Tampa Bay Surface Design Guild.
An opening reception will take place Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the show runs through Feb. 26.
Gaga should be so proud.
