Runway insanity watch: Pierre Cardin
Pierre Cardin has lost his mind.
Granted, the designer has always liked geometry and architecture. He's a bit wacky, but much of his stuff is wearable. He even invented the beloved bubble dress, one of which hangs in my closet as we speak. But COME ON.
This collection, shown in France on Monday, looks like one of those Fruit of the Loom commercials where grown men prance through madcap scenarios in plush purple grape suits. It's like Disney World, if Disney World relocated to the freaky trippy river tunnel in Willy Wonka.
Pierre is 86, and I wonder -- at this point, is it all hilariously entertaining to him? Does he sit in his studio thinking, "Behold, caro amici! I've slogged away for years creating fabulous couture and wrist watches doomed to die on overstock.com! I tire of this dog's life! From now on, my models will wear GIANT POLKA DOTS, and that's final. Now mi scusi, must go plot my spring line. GIANT FOAM MARLIN HEADS!"
At least he keeps the bloggers in business!
