Seen on the street: 80s skirt made awesome
Well, lookee what roamed through the halls of the St. Pete Times this week. This is Alexa Volland, one of the superstar young journalists at tb-two*. Alexa, who is about to graduate from Seminole High, is one of the craftiest people I've ever met. She was responsible for a ton of our Earth Day fashion spread sewing projects. Remember the Pine Tree Sweater of Terror? She made it legitimately cute. We still don't know how.
Anyway, I'm burying the lead. LOOK AT HER SKIRT. ZOMG.
When's the last time you saw THAT? 1989? Contempo Casuals? Food court Orange Julius? En route to a Terence Trent D'Arby concert? It's 80s for sure, but she makes it look so throwback cute. Alexa said this skirt was actually shorts, but she cut out the inseam and made it a skirt so she'd look less like a hipster and more, you know, awesome.
The lucky find came from Thrift City USA in Pinellas Park. It was 49 cents, she said. And the best part?
It was half-price day.
