Shopping with serendipity
In between interviews for a story in Brandon the other day, a Times photographer and I decided to make a pit stop at one of the many fruit stands calling out to us from State Road 60: "Strawberry milkshakes! Strawberry shortcakes! Strawberry pizza!"
We settled on milkshakes at Collins Produce, at the corner of N St. Cloud Avenue. (Clearly this was before I discovered a potentially healthier January fro-yo deal.) Just as we were about to leave the shady haven of sweet goodness, a glimmer of gold caught my eye.
"How much are those earrings?" I asked the woman behind the counter.
"Five," she answered with a twang.
"As in, five dollars?"
And so, those delicate, dangly darlings unexpectedly became my new favorite purchase.
Here's to my favorite deal of all: the one that finds you.
