Slacks for girls with curves

July

Reader Question:

Dear Deal Diva, what's a girl with ample hips and thighs to do when looking for slacks among what seems to be an endless supply of European cut pants. Any suggestions?

Marie from New Tampa

Well Madame Marie, you hit the nail right on the head. European cuts are just that... European. They tend to be cut smaller and longer than your average American design. But mon cherie, it sounds like you are more of an American girl with the Coca-Cola bottle curves to prove it. So ditch the European quest and shoot for American designers. Think Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan. This may mean you spend a bit more for your slacks, but trust me you'll be glad you did when you strut your stuff. If your goal is to look leaner, shoot for pants with a little stretch via spandex, embrace flare legged trousers and flat front slacks. But above all else, embrace every inch of your body and get to shopping. Vite! Vite!

For your consideration....

Michaelkorswhitestretchjeans Michael Kors is one of my favorite American designers. He's modern yet classic. His looks usually work for a broad age-base. Check out these white summer-savvy jeans that can double for fun times at the beach or casual Fridays at work. ($109.50 at Macy's)

Ralphlaurendyliscuff Wide legged trousers are the bee's knees these days. And the great thing about them is they look good on just about everyone. Throw on these Ralph Lauren cuffed trousers with some wedges or platform heels and you've got the look. ($99.50 at Macy's)

Jjillcottonpants

J.Jill, long considered the store for earth-friendly ladies who lunch, has some smarts when it comes to pants sizing. They offer just about every slack in misses, petite, tall and plus. These slightly flared stretch cotton pants are no exception. Not a J.Jill type of gal? Remember, sometimes finding the right fit means exploring unchartered territory. Incpants Having a puffy tummy day, there's nothing better than a wide waist- band pair of slacks. And these plaid pair by I.N.C. do the trick. They're light weight which makes them great for Spring and Summer. And they've got just a bit of spandex to provide a little give and take. ($27.65 at Macy's)
