Sneak peek: Goodwill's annual wedding dress gala!
In its fourth year, the Goodwill Suncoast Wedding Gala dress event, has grown into a destination for brides-to-be. And in these economic times, why wouldn't it be?
But don't expect second-rate dresses at the gala, which is scheduled for June 4 and 5, (doors open at 6 a.m.) The gala promises stunning frocks by well-known designers, like the gorgeous Justin Alexanderslip dress pictured below. YOWZERS ... this almost makes me want to walk down the aisle again! The dress, a size 6, retails for $1,240. Find it at the Goodwill event for only $300!
I was lucky enough to catch up with gala organizer Michael Ann Harvey, vice president of marketing and public relations for Goodwill Industries-Suncoast, for a few more tips on how to get the most out of the wedding dress extravaganza!

The early bird, gets the awesome dress:
Typically, women start lining up at 4 a.m. on both days, according to Harvey. So bring a lawn chair. Goodwill staffers will be handing out numbers. Twenty brides will enter the fitting area at a time.
Get ready to be pampered:
There's music and yummy snacks to nosh on and lots of applause as each woman finds her perfect gown, Harvey shared. So bring a girlfriend, auntie or even an uncle and make a day of it!
Variety is the spice of a bride-to-be's life:
Dress prices will be in the low hundreds. There are famous brand names like Demitrios, and more affordable labels like Sincerity bridal, Harvey said. Sizes also run the gamut from size 4 to 18.
If at first you don't succeed, dust off that lawn chair and try again:
There is a total inventory of 350 gowns, Harvey said. There will be approximately 175 gowns at each store. Those that don’t sell the first day at the Oldsmar store, will be shipped to Cypress Creek for the second day. That means a woman who doesn’t find her dress the first morning can go Cypress Creek the second morning and have a whole new crop of dresses to consider.
Look good inside and out:
Proceeds from wedding dress purchases will benefit Goodwill programs for people with disabilities. A perfect way for you to build up some good karma for your future Bridezilla moments.
Mark your calendars:
Goodwill 2010 Wedding Galas are scheduled for: June 4 (Oldsmar Goodwill Superstore, 3929 Tampa Road) and June 5 (Cypress Creek Superstore, 2390 Willow Oak Drive.) Doors open in both locations at 6 a.m.
