Spooky: Black Friday before Halloween
A sale's a sale. But there's something a little silly about pushing into October the mania over Black Friday, the shopping extravaganza that begins as soon as we stop shoving Thanksgiving turkey into our mouths.
If Valentine's Day is a Hallmark holiday, Black Friday is the creation of Big Box, USA.
So perhaps it's not surprising that, as the New York Times reported today, some stores are beginning their promotions as early as this week. The "Black Friday" sales will run throughout November, encouraging us all to get our holiday shopping on ASAP.
I've never been much for 4 a.m. wake-up alarms, or angry mobs in stores, so I appreciate getting a crack at a great deal on a laptop sans the turkey hangover. But a month of Black Friday sales? If it must be done, can't anyone come up with a better name?
