Spring fever: Get your closet ready for the season!

ClosetThe long winter had an upside for Florida fashionistas. Our closets are filled with spring/summer clothing. And none of it has seen the light of day in months, so everything feels like new!

But to make the most of the options, my closet needs a strategic spring cleaning. Here's my plan:

1. Try on everything. I have a few sundresses I didn't wear last year because they felt dowdy, but the styles are cute. The problem is unflattering, below-the-knee hemlines, which can be solved by ...

2. Befriend a tailor. It's often cheaper (and more eco-friendly) to get a piece altered than to buy new.

3. Shop smart for spring. More is not always more, so be savvy about your buys. Anything in coral, for example, can liven up the basics that I already own in black, white and many colors in between.

4. Splurge on sandals. Florida divas will be wearing sandals and peep toes for the rest of the year. So purge those ratty, torn-up heels and invest in new.

Am I forgetting anything important? What are your tips for making the most of a closet spring cleaning?
