St. Pete woman needs your vote for $1 million Macy's prize
The first thing I'd think if I were ever chosen for a Clinton Kelly makeover: Yesssss!!! Woo hoo!!! Awesome!!
The second: Aw, man.....
But St. Pete resident Ingrid Magnani wasn't the least offended when the king of style and snark gave her the treatment. It probably helped that Magnani got the makeover in preparation to compete in a $1 million Macy's store giveaway contest, opening March 7 on Facebook. Macy's tells us the prize includes "products, services, cash and experiences that will transform the winners life."
Ingrid and seven other finalists from around the country were picked from more than 19,000 applicants because of their inspirational stories. Ingrid, 35, survived an abusive childhood, bout of thyroid cancer and ongoing struggle with Crohn's disease. She put herself through Columbia University, studying engineering, and opened her own construction firms in Clearwater and Largo -- a lonely industry for females, she told us over the phone today.
She's also devoted to charity work and said she hopes the online contest, which will feature her in a short video, will help her raise awareness of her newest project: opening a vocational camp for girls to teach them about construction.
While we think Ingrid is perfect just as she is in this "before" photo (especially with that darling pink hard hat), she said Clinton transformed her into someone she says her friends hardly recognize. (She couldn't share any "after" photos before the contest.)
While Ingrid obviously hopes to win, she said the experience has already been fabulous.
"Clinton is really awesome... He is really easy to talk to, very down to earth, very helpful," Ingrid said. " But he did say the meanest thing to me."
"I can't say."
Guess we'll have to see for ourselves. Check out Ingrid's video and vote starting March 7!
