Style espionage: Hiding shaggy brows
Beauty advice says to play up your good features. But what if the bad is striped across your face?
Let's talk eyebrow maintenance. By some blessing or curse of genetics, I could stand in for Frida Kahlo. My brows are dark, thick and bushy. On waxing weeks, there's nothing to do but go au natural until they can be properly tamed. (Recently, Deal Diva Nicole turned me onto eyebrow threading, and I'm completely sold on this waxing alternative that doesn't burn.)
But threading and waxing require a prerequisite bad brow day. Gotta have something there to remove. What's a girl to do in the meantime?
My approach is to divert attention. I skip contacts and hide behind dark-rimmed glasses. I hope people will focus on my frames. Normally, I wear light lip gloss, but I pile on lipstick when my brows grow big. Look at the kisser, not above!
Does it work? Suffice to say that I found myself calling in for emergency threading recently, a day before my scheduled appointment. But it's better than nothing. Anyone have other tips for styling subterfuge?

Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
