The super complicated no-makeup look

Three cheers for the no-makeup look! It came into fashion just in time, as a recent unfortunate event has made some of us a little less inclined gaga.jpgto spend our hard-earned dollars and cents on frivolous items like mascara, rouge and eyeshadow.

Even Lady Gaga is getting into the all-natural game, posing bare-faced on the latest cover of Harper's Bazaar. The look is a drastic departure from the usual theatrical costume makeup we're used to seeing gaga2.jpgfrom Gaga, and it's a refreshing endorsement of the no-makeup trends we're seeing on runways and photo spreads lately. Doesn't she look so young and fresh?

But wait. What's this? The magazine gives tips on which makeup to use for Gaga's no makeup look, and it comes from M.A.C., of all places. I love M.A.C. so very much, but it's not cheap, and it's certainly not what I think of when I think "natural." "To get Lady Gaga's no-makeup look, try Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation ($29.15), Prep + Prime Highlighter ($23), Brow Gel ($15) and Prep + Prime Lash ($15)," the photo caption reads.

Okay, well, that's already more makeup than I use now. And I'm guessing there's some lip stain and pencils and shimmer gels and powders they're leaving out.

Real Simple magazine gives a step-by-step on how to achieve the "natural, no makeup look" and it goes as follows: Step one, clean and moisturize skin with a SEVENTY DOLLAR TINTED MOISTURIZER BY LA MER. Step two, conceal any flaws with a FORTY DOLLAR CHANEL CONCEALER. Step three, a $28 Bare Escentuals mineral foundation. Then some fancy Smashbox cheek color. I haven't even gotten to the eyes yet.

Yeah, never mind. I'll just stick to my el cheapo Cover Girl mascara and 6-year-old eyeshadow and blush palette for that "classic, down-to-earth, perfectly reasonable makeup look." I don't have the time or money to sport a nude face.
