tights + flat boots = fall bliss
As I type this my fingers are a wee-bit cold from taking the doggie out for his early morning walk. If I didn't see the palm trees swaying I wouldn't believe it myself, "Is this Florida?" I said to myself.
It's chilly. 48 degrees to be exact. The weather folks say there's a cold front hitting us pretty hard, and well, I'm not complaining.
It gives me an excuse to begin working on a combo I've longed to rock -- tights and flat boots.
This look screams style and class. It's part equestrian, part funky! I grew to love this look during my college years in Richmond, VA -- a preppy southern city where the right boot is a must.
I'm still on the hunt for the perfect flat boot, tights combo. But I'm thinking dark brown leather, like these from Nine West.
They're a little pricey at about $150, but I think they've got staying power so I'll consider them an investment buy. Luckily a pair of good tights doesn't have to run you more than $10. I adore this argyle pair at Kohls.
There are a lot of great styles for cheap out there, have a look!
Wanna a little slouch in your life? Go for this suede pair at Target. Only $35.99. Pair them with an unpredictable color, like my favorite: green! Check out this pair of Kermit-esque tights and make them envy you with each strut.
Bet on black --that's what I always say. This pair of boots from DSW are funky, yet reserved and decently priced at $74.95. Go a little crazy with a pair of animal print tights. Love this pair from JC Penny.

Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
A disciple of the little black dress classics school, Letitia Stein stretches her budget by looking for styles with staying power. She lives for 80 percent off shoes at DSW, floral sundresses and bohemian chic tops. She confesses to being a bit of a snob when it comes to handbags and jewelry.
