Tips for working the clearance center for Dillard's department stores

Saveillustration ATTN BARGAIN SHOPPERS: If you've not been to the new clearance center for Dillard's department stores at University Mall recently, it's time to take another look.

We weren't impressed when it opened. Sure, everything was 70 percent off regular prices at Dillard's department stores, but the layout was chaotic and disorganized. It was overwhelming, even for die hard Deal Divas.

But things are looking up. For starters, the deals are even better. Fall merchandise was an additional 50 percent off, on top of 70 percent sale, over the weekend. All of the women's dresses were 70 plus an additional 30 percent. The math is dizzying. Just think: Cheap. I snagged a Nygard jacket for $10.

The layout is still pretty Wild West. So here are some tips for working the clearance center for Dillard's department stores, which is located at University Mall in Tampa.

  • Go during the week, or first thing on Saturday morning, when merchandise is most likely to be organized and the dressing rooms aren't overflowing.
  • Know the store hours, which are odd. It opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. during the week and on Saturday.
  • Focus on a particular area of the store (or give yourself a LOT of time.) You can work the shoe section, or accessories in one trip. On another, maybe you're looking for a skirt or dress.

Happy bargain hunting!
