'Tis the season of Gift With Purchase

sample1.jpgWell, it's that time. Time for all the online stores to start clamoring for your attention, your hard-earned dollars spent on their wares, not the same exact wares offered two clicks away at a different online store. Cyber Monday may have come and gone, but don't be fooled. You can get deep, deep discounts right up until Christmas if you sample2.jpgplay your online promotion codes right.

Me, I prefer flat-out freebies to discounts. I love shopping at and other online beauty product stores because it's so fun to pick out the free samples at checkout. Never mind that the samples are tiny and often get thrown out after one use (if that), it still feels like you're getting something extra special for your patronage.

This year, it seems as though the various competing beauty product stores have upped the Gift With Purchase (GWP) ante, and it's so hard to choose which ones are the best! Some of them are pretty awesome, if not a little strange. And maybe kind of desperate., for example, is offering a free ice bucket and pair of wine glasses if you spend only $30 on a women's or men's fragrance. Seems sort of cumbersome to be shipping out something so fragile, but we'll take it! Ulta is also extending it's Cyber Monday free beauty grab bags with any $35 purchase.

Over at, if you spend $100 (which is dangerously easy to spend at sites like these), you get a pretty Erickson Beamon makeup bag filled with fairly high-quality samples such as a Laura Geller full-sized eye shadow, Smashbox primer, a full-sized Stila smudge stick eyeliner and a $10 gift card.

And for spending only $25, Sephora is offering an intriguing "mystery gift", which appears to be a bag filled with five deluxe and travel-sized samples of their choosing. And if you hurry and do it by the end of today, they say, that mere $25 order will be shipped free if you use the code SHIPNOW at checkout.

This is just the beginning. These sites are so overloaded with little "free gift" ads, it's almost hard to navigate the home pages. But you can do it. If you're thinking about heading to the mall to buy another bubble bath set for mom or cologne for your significant other, time to recalibrate your shopping strategy. Online is the way to go.
