Trashy Fashion and other MacGyver moves

We all know clear nailpolish can keep stockings from running amok. But I've also used red polish to hide a scuff in a pair of patent leather flats. Heck, I've used a black Sharpie to disguise a stain on suede Mary Janes. And a certain Deal Diva tells me that two strategically placed Band-Aids can keep the nips in check.

Divas, who among us hasn't had a MacGyver moment? In a pinch, we resort to turning an everyday object into a wardrobe saver. How clever we feel when we find new uses for old things.

The participants in Largo's second annual Trashy Fashion Show have us all beaten. In honor of Earth Day, on Wednesday the amateur designers will show off their recycled couture creations: A tube top woven from pond fronds. A flapper-style Whitedress cocktail dress made from old magazines, coffee filters and found objects. A white ball gown, reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe's billowing frock in The Seven Year Itch, contrived from mattress packaging materials and old CDs (right, with matching clutch, no less). And if you're curious about the runway-worthy number in the above photo, it's made from hangers and stockings. Brilliant!

Whether you're out to save the planet or just to save your pantyhose, what's the most innovative fashion maneuver you've ever pulled off with a household object?
