Versace goes pastel for Obama
Michelle Obama and her black and white daytime TV dress are sooo last week. Hubby Barack is getting the fashionista love now.
Saturday in Milan, Donatella Versace dedicated her Spring-Summer 2009 men's collection to the presidential hopeful, telling reporters she had designed the line for "a relaxed man who doesn't need to flex muscles to show he has power." She called Obama "the man of the moment."
Personally, I'm a little freaked out by the powerful largess of Donatella's lips. TOO MUCH collagen. That aside, having a fashion collection dedicated in your honor, even if it's by an Italian designer who can't cast a vote in the American presidential election, is pretty cool.
I'm a fan of Mr. Obama's campaign clothing style. But Donatella, the ultimate diva, offered some fashion tips for the trail during an after-show dinner party in the garden of her private palazzo in downtown Milan (does that sound fabulous or what?)
"I would get rid of the tie and jazz up the shirt," she said, according to the Associated Press.
The AP reports that there were no ties in Donatella's latest show. Under jackets, she opted for shirts with rolled up sleeves or a silk T-shirt. I'm on board with her pastel palette, but I'll die laughing if my hubbie shows up in anything silk.

Katie Sanders foolishly spurned pretty dresses and shoes as a child, tossing new clothes over her shoulder at birthday parties with a totally rude "no, thank you." Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
