Versace for H&M debuts Saturday, but maybe not on average bodies
If you haven't recovered from the H&M opening in International Plaza, you're only going to end up broken, feeble and crying in the hospital after this extra dose of style news:
The Versace for H&M collection debuts in American stores on Saturday. It's sure to be an explosion of design and fashion all over your lifeless, stunned body (geez, I'm feeling morbid today). From a fashion standpoint, I'm excited for the collection, which has some items around $30, like leggings and scarves, as well as dresses and jackets priced unreasonably in the hundreds (I'm sure they'll go on sale in a matter of time). But despite the prices I was still all gung-ho in spirit until I read something disheartening today.
Brainchild (brainmother?) Donatella Versace apparently halted a photo shoot for the New York Daily News that was set to feature "real" New York women wearing the line. Donatella decided only one of the proposed average gals was acceptable to wear her line, according to the story.
Ew. Her insistence on unattainable standards of beauty is especially sad given her own daughter has battled an eating disorder. I hope she reconsiders and casts some women of diverse size in her publicity campaigns.
