Wardrobe rotation: How often do you wear the same outfit?
A year ago, Colleen and I were horrified to show up at work in the SAME black shirt dress. For the next six months, we called each other on the mornings that one of us wanted to wear it, just to make sure...
Today, we almost did it again. But thankfully, Colleen remembered that I had already worn another shirt dress this week. (I own at least four. The shirt dress is a once-a-week staple for me, the easiest possible way for me to look pulled together in zero time.)
In middle school, I took wardrobe planning uber seriously. Every day, I wrote down what I wore in a little pink notebook, to make sure I didn't humiliate myself with a repeat too soon. My rotation: three weeks, then I could wear it again.
Yeah, totally obsessive, pathetic and ridiculous. But that's a lot easier to see at 30-something than at 13.
I don't keep a calendar any more, but old habits die hard. I'm still stuck on a three-week target window for wardrobe rotations. Am I nuts? How long do you go before wearing a favorite outfit again?
