Winning beauty products at drugstore prices

Aveeno Shape magazine's September issue hit stands this week with its 6th annual list of beauty award winners. The list highlights fave beauty products that were released on the market between May 2008-09.

Shape deserves a shout-out for giving ink to products WE CAN ACTUALLY AFFORD. As in, things you can buy at your neighborhood drugstore. Lately, I've been annoyed by fashion glossies that think they are doing us a favor with their so-called "deals," which are usually still way to pricey for the average piggy bank.

Extra kudos go to the tried-and-true brands that have found ways to make their trusty products even better. I can vouch for one of the winners of "best facial moisturizer." I already used Aveeno, but was totally psyched when the brand bumped up its sun-fighting powers for the Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30. Despite the higher SPF -- a daily must for my freckle-faced, fair-skinned self -- the cream manages to feel light and non-greasy. Plus, it has light-reflecting mica that gives skin a natural sparkle.

Here are some other Shape of Beauty Awards 2009 winners:

Best facial cleanser -- Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser

Best body moisturizer -- Lubriderm Advanced Therapy Triple Smoothing Body Lotion

Best antiperspirant/deoderant -- Dove Visibly Smooth Clinical Protection Antiperspirant/Deoderant

Best eye care -- Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller

Best eye makeup -- Maybelline the Colossal Volume Express Mascara

Best lip color -- Covergirl Outlast Lipstain
