Deal Divas: Local Celebrity Edition
Pinellas County's been getting some love lately from the richly fabulous and famous!
I caught up last week with Andrea Fisher, a Clearwater woman who appeared on a Sept. 19 Project Runway episode dedicated to super fans. And on Monday, I sat in on a top-notch concert by up and coming country singer-songwriter (and Reba McEntire protege) Caroline Kole at her alma mater, Saint Paul's School near Largo.
But, of course, what interview is complete without a little -- or, in Andrea's case, a LOT -- of fashion?!
Andrea, a 42-year-old wife and mother, was among eight fans who modeled designs that Project Runway contestants created especially for them as part of a L'Oreal Paris makeover promotion.
But Andrea's no stranger to looking good! The outdoor utilities service technician-turned-corporate employee describes herself as a "diva" and "shoe nut" who's always on the lookout for the best deal.
"I can take a $20 outfit and make it look like $100," she says. "I'm not with a lot of the brand names but if I can catch a deal at one of my favorite places -- Ross, Burlington, TJ Maxx, Dots. ...My thing is I go to the clearance rack first. There's occasions when you want to spend the top dollar but I always shop for that deal first."
*Sigh* A girl after our own heart!
Meanwhile, at Saint Paul's this week, I absolutely fell IN LUV with Caroline's colorful ensemble that managed to incorporate all the latest trends -- leather pants and jacket, flowy high-low hem top, gold -- in a way that I can never seem to reproduce.
The 16-year-old high school junior is endorsed by Stella & Dot, which provides most of her jewelry.
"I love big statement pieces so I really like that to be the focal point of any outfit I'm wearing. And apparently leather pants are the thing for the fall, so I'm like 'Paint those pants on!'," Caroline said before pointing to her boots, blouse and leather jacket. "I always like a little bit of lift and then I'm really big on pops of color. Anything with clean lines, modern ... boom!"
Unfortunately, the Deal Diva in me hasn't allowed me to bring myself to dish out cash for a newer model iPhone that takes less grainy pics, so I'd advise you to also click here to check out professional photos and -- shameless plug -- my story!
