Fashion fears: Bandage dresses and the like
So it wasn't exactly a spoiler alert, but my October confession about fighting through my nerves and wearing a bandage dress nicely forecasts the fashion fear I'm unpacking today.
Secret's out: I'm uneasy with anything clingy, showy, va va voom, you get the picture. I'm just a little scared and it's awkward, okay?
Now, Modcloth. Modcloth is a safe place, an often hilarious place where I can picture myself in fun sundresses with prints of ice cream sandwiches and popsicles (I texted Stephanie a picture of one last night). No crop tops! No cutouts! Just me and cute silly prints.
Stuff with birds on it, plus others with cats, tea cups and roosters? I have plenty. My default is twee, not necessarily look at me. Playing it safe with the illusion of wild fun.
I fear pushing the boundaries of cute. But because it's who I am doesn't mean I have to be limited to it.
Doing the unexpected more often has proven very fun.
I've documented some of my efforts for Deal Divas. There was, of course, the groundbreaking bandage dress moment that made believers of us all* (or me, at least). Then, in Vegas, I got caught up in the moment and tried a neckline-plunging dress from Rent the Runway.
Both times I needed encouragement from friends before pulling the trigger. Both times I was so happy I did.
Anyone else share my shape-embracing apprehension?
