Groupon gets fancy and confuses us all
So picture this. Me, pre-coffee and blurry-eyed, scrolling through emails one morning, when I see the words vintage (!) purses (!) sale (!) in a message from Groupon.
All red flags for this diva. So of course, I clicked. And then promptly frowned.
Groupon has got F_A-N-C-Y, guys. I'm talking Hermes, Prada, fancy leather men's shoes- fancy. And I really don't know how I feel about all of it.
Apparently I missed the online coupon company's press release this summer, announcing its new "Groupon Reserve" brand. It's all about appealing to those who want the finer things but still want to, oh you know, NOT pay full price.
"As Groupon has evolved, we've seen growing demand from our customers for upscale offers and exclusive experiences," Groupon CEO Eric Lefkofsky said in the release. "Reserve gives the most prestigious brands a new way to reach our large and desirable audience."
Hence the email I got this week, which promised a deal on vintage purses. I was stoked about all this - until I opened the link and saw the prices.
After poking around a little, I did find a few things that were more in line with what we usually see from online deals. Like these $15 rings (I'm sure they're real gold) and a pair of moccasins I'm kind of obsessed with. (Only $69!)
Discouraging, but not a total bust.
Have you guys seen Groupon Reserve yet? What do you think?
