Let's talk about the alleged hair trend of 2014: the tuck

My friend Jessica and I were deep in conversation over brews on Sunday, a really gorgeous day except for the wind that kept whipping our hair across our faces.

Lacking a hair tie, Jessica secured her long hair under the strap of her sundress ("Is this weird?" "No, do it!"). I copied, thinking it a bright and practical idea, and pulled mine inside my puffy dress collar.

At the time I was not thinking, I am so high fashion right now.

But that goes to show how little attention I was paying to fashion week.

Vogue and Allure are just some of the fashion websites celebrating the hair tuck as the hottest hairstyle off the designer runways of Marc Jacobs, Nina Ricci, Tory Burch and more.

No, really. The world's top fashion minds sent out models with the ends of their hair tucked inside turtlenecks and scarfs, all looking on the cusp of grabbing their hair at the nape of their neck and releasing it without actually completing that final step. Chanel even tucked hair underneath necklaces, too.

Magazines and bloggers are loving it. Finally, a way to get that posh bob you always wanted but could not execute! They write and pin about leaving a few strands out in front for a more relaxed finish.

I can't be the only one thinking it's a really nice effort to make the hair tuck happen, but no. Having hair at your neck all day is kind of itchy, for starters. One friend said she uses this trick when she's trying to figure out if it's time to go short again. Now it's fashion?

Then again, can this be a thing? Our hair would be so much healthier. We wouldn't have to straighten or blowdry our ends because we're just going to banish them inside our shirts anyway. We'd give off those too-cool, "I'm a Parisian, and you're so basic" vibes.

Let's fire up the comments and talk about it.
