Looking high and low (har har) for neutral flats
As stated in my recently revamped profile to the right (after doing this blog for 5 years, it was time), I am in a transitional phase. I, Stephanie Hayes, high heel addict since the 10th grade, am experimenting more with flats. I am wearing a pair of royal blue ballet flats right now as I type at my desk. They are sparkly and have bows and are a full-on laugh riot o' fashion fun. I still like the power and height and length I feel in a good heel, but the older I get, the more I value the comfort and ability to dash out the door and get to my car without having to wobble over a crack in the sidewalk. There's a time and a place for all shoes, I am coming to learn.
That said, I think I need more options in my flats arsenal. I have this blue pair on my feet and a red pair and a pink pair and a couple others. But I am sorely lacking in basic, neutral, go-with-anything ballet flats. Payless had my answer today. The store is touting its Deflex by Dexter Claire scrunch flat, and what do you know? It comes in every neutral you could ever need (plus a leopard style, because we are humans and we have NEEDS, after all). They're on sale right now for $19.99, and while I haven't tried them on for size, they look mighty cushioned in the photos. I have mall plans this evening, so rest assured I will be giving them a go. The reviews on the website are pretty glowing.
Now if the new and improved me can only get out of the store without these, too...
