My Outfit Monday: Blue, magenta and the mighty midi

As you've probably guessed by the late timing of this post, I'm already at home. The PJs are on, the vegging has commenced.

It was a long work day and there was no time for pictures. Which makes me feel bad. So to make up for it, how about I do you one better and give you a twofer My Outfit Monday post!

When I first joined Deal Divas, I mentioned the need to expand my wardrobe's color palette. Update: I've been putting in #werk, yall!

Blue has always been one of my favorite colors. And, despite my initial aversion to most things in the red family, I've really been feeling burgundy, oxblood and especially magenta lately. From shoes to jewelry and even jeans, I've been rocking reddish-purple with pride.

The first outfit in the slideshow features a business casual office look that I think could also cross over into weekend wear. Loyal Deal Diva readers have seen my navy jacket (Crystal Expressions and Drew Street Bargain Resale in Clearwater), white blouse (Urban Outfitters) and magenta jeweled flats (Nine West via DSW) before.

I've been enamored with maxi dresses and skirts lately. But a friend who recently introduced me to Nordstrom Rack also introduced me to that little slice of heaven known as the midi skirt. If you haven't already tried one on, just do it! The comfy alternative to the pencil skirt, midis not only provide work-appropriate length, but look great with both flats and heels and accentuate (or in *ahem* some cases, create the optical illusion of) flattering curves.

I finished off the look with a magenta bracelet (Target clearance), long gold fringe necklace (Plato's Closet) and a floral scarf (Rue 21) to tie all the colors together.

The second look here has actually been several years in the making.

For months on end, both the blue/white lace top (Charlotte Russe) and magenta skinnies (Target) hung in the back of my closet. They just never seemed to match anything. The top was literally "thisclose" to going in my discard bin alongside the jeans when -- you guessed it -- I saw the two items side by side for the first time and a light bulb went off!

Cinching the top with a belt helped alter the boxy shape. I knew the navy jacket and magenta bracelet would definitely work again here. And though it looked a little odd, somehow I really liked the juxtaposition of the sky blue teardrop necklace (Forever 21) and earrings (part of a handmade necklace set purchased at Clearwater Greek Fest) against such a bold color. The gold crisscross ring is from Forever 21 and the boots are from Dots.

So don't hold back, divas. Are you a fan of the magenta/blue color combo? Have you tried midi skirts, and do you prefer the look here for work or play? Are the outfits here fab or fugly?
