My Outfit Monday: BRRRR! It's cold up here
Here in Tallahassee, it feels like the first day of school.
The annual legislative session starts tomorrow, and I'm covering it for PolitiFact Florida (my real job!). I've been getting mentally prepared for the craziness of session for the past few weeks -- both at work and while shopping at my favorite stores. Today's My Outfit Monday reflects the latter effort.
The trench
You think it's cold in Tampa Bay? Puh-leeze. This is North Florida. On chilly March mornings like today, with my car frosted over and my hands dry as a rock, I may as well have woken in Wisconsin. In St. Pete, my trench hangs unneeded in my closet, which causes me sadness because it is cute and fun with cheery orange lining. In my two weeks in Tally, I've already worn it twice out of #$%^&*#$ necessity. It was a Christmas gift from Anthropologie. It might be the nicest thing I own.
The bag
I bought this business bag at Revolve Clothing Exchange. It cost $10, thanks to last month's $10-for$20 GroupOn that 710 people snagged. So worth! The bag is a reporter's dream, with a pocket big enough for a laptop, pockets for pens and business cards, and a long cross-body strap. Do you love it like I do?
What lies beneath
As you can tell from the dramatic recreation of a serious news event on a staircase, I'm wearing normal clothes too (it stops feeling like Wisconsin around 9 a.m.) With my tax refund in hand, I went on a little Deal Diva-style session essentials stock-up this weekend. I got the black dress pants -- so essential, yet so hard to find the perfect fit -- BOGOHO from Express and the geometric blouse from the sale rack at Banana Republic. I've had the taupe sweater a couple years. So cozy.

Katie Sanders foolishly spurned pretty dresses and shoes as a child, tossing new clothes over her shoulder at birthday parties with a totally rude "no, thank you." Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Think blazers with statement necklaces, and lots of patterned ballet flats. She can be reached at 850) 224-7263 or
Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
A disciple of the little black dress classics school, Letitia Stein stretches her budget by looking for styles with staying power. She lives for 80 percent off shoes at DSW, floral sundresses and bohemian chic tops. She confesses to being a bit of a snob when it comes to handbags and jewelry.
