My Outfit Monday: Macy's, take two
We did it again! After the great success of the Deal Divas' hosting gig for Macy's Spring Essentials fashion show earlier this year, we jumped at the chance to reprise our role over the weekend. This time at the newly remodeled Macy's WestShore, we forecast fall trends for the shoppers in the store.
Here's what we learned about looks for fall:
Leather: From faux to real deal, leather is everywhere this season. We told folks in the crowd that this doesn't mean you have to look like a reject from Daytona Bike Week. You can wear leather in moderation, with small lapel details and skirt trims. And it doesn't have to be black, either. Some of our favorite leather styles came in shades from fuschia to emerald to royal blue. I demonstrated the trend by donning a pair of faux-leather (fleather, as Kameel likes to say) leggings from Kensie. They kind of made me feel like a superhero. Keyonna (who celebrated her 30th birthday Saturday during the fashion show, and with cupcakes backstage) brought some faux-leather into her look, too, with a lightweight suede-like jacket from Rachel Roy.
Patterns: Our new Deal Diva, Keeley, must be commended for stepping up to co-host with us in her very first week on the job. She sported an adorable Bar III dog sweater layered atop a plaid shirt and topped with Macy's signature houndstooth scarf. The moral of the story? Be fearless when it comes to pattern mixing. It doesn't have to MATCH, it has to GO.
Dresses: It's all about the dress this fall. We were obsessed with anything that had panels on the side, as they provide major perks in the way of optical illusions around the hips. Katie wore a lace dress from Bar III that managed to be light, bright and fall-ready all at the same time.
Outerwear: It's Florida, so we don't have much need for parkas unless we're visiting family up north. But we showed ways to make colder weather outerwear work even in the south, from puffy vests without sleeves to cozy cardigans to keep at the office to military inspired jackets, like the one I wore from Sanctuary.
Gold: Forget silver for your holiday party. This season, it's all about gold, from the details on bags to full-on gold party dresses. I bought a chunky, funky gold chain I wore during the show, and, yes, am already wearing again today. No regrets.
Thanks to Macy's, and everyone who came out to see us! Check out the slideshow for our looks from the show, plus some shots of what the models wore. Everything you see here is available at Macy's RIGHT NOW. (And an extra thanks to friend to Divas, Ren LaForme, for taking the pics from the crowd.)
