My Outfit Monday: Welcoming fall with tights and booties
Today, dear Divas readers, there is a chill in the air, marking that time of year when Floridians collectively turn the air off, heave their windows open and go "Oh, yeah, that's why I live here."
You know what this kind of weather means. Tights and booties*. Specifically, grey faux-suede high-heeled ankle booties around which this My Outfit Monday was built.
This week's post is also an ode to a casual clothier beloved in my house: JC Penney. We here at Deal Divas love our J. Crew Factory and our hip local boutiques, but JCP has a special place in my heart as a department store I frequented for back-to-elementary-school outfits and recently rediscovered as a haver of amazing deals.
Like this dress, a stretchy black Liz Claiborne with a grey tweed-like textured pattern down the middle. Purchased on sale last year for half the normal price and with a $10 coupon, I think the total came to about $17.
The tights are also JCP, probably the fourth pair of black ones I have gone through this year, as I have a terrible propensity for ripping them the second time I wear them. (2016 goal: Step up my tights game.) I'm sure they were in the $3-$4 range. And the shoes are Apt. 9 brand from Kohl's, scored last year for about $20. I don't wear them often, because the heel is so high as to require extreme concentration when I walk. But when I do, I make it count.
I went for an up-do with my hair today (a messy side bun seemed in line with the day's breeziness) in order to show off the awesome pleather sleeve detail of the dress. My Outfit Photographer/Times social media editor/Taylor Swift obsessive Lyndsey McKenna declared this morning that I look like I belong in Swift's Bad Blood video, and I like to think the sleeves have something to do with that. Topping everything off is a pair of sparkly earrings (Target) that are thisclose to completely falling apart, I wear them so often.
What do we think? Is this outfit enough to make you forget that today's highs are still going to be in the low 80s?
(*Note: No, it is not really cold enough for either of these. But in Florida, we take "fall weather" where we can get it.)
