My Outfit Monday: Trying to recreate Macy's magic
It's been a minute. Remember that time Macy's invited the Deal Divas to wear cute clothes and host a fashion show? I know we've hardly mentioned it, but do you recall how the event left us desiring the clothes we wore, how some of us purchased pieces of our look?
I loved the stuff I chose for the show: Bar III graphic floral dress ($90), Calvin Klein apricot fishscale heels ($99) and Bar III beige faux-leather moto jacket ($90). But I did buy any of the pieces that day (see prices).
The good news is I took my own hard advice of waiting before splurging, and it worked!
A few weeks later, I got the heels for $55 (still a splurge) and the dress for $35 (plus free shipping, y'all). Alas, the jacket is the one that got away, as it never went on sale and is out of stock.
We're in for a week of rain, so I set out to make my new and cheerful dress appropriate for work.
The honest result: I feel very meh and blerghy compared to that magical day at Macy's.
I thought the apricot heels were impractical for work, so I wore navy flats instead. Downside: I don't feel glamorous, statuesque or summery. Just short and practical.
Absent baller beige moto jacket, I paired the dress with a navy 3/4-length blazer from my closet. Downside: It's boxy, and the dark color sucks out the summer feel. (Is anyone out there selling affordable beige motojackets? Call me.)
Check out the slideshow and leave me some feedback. How could I improve the work version of this look? (Don't say tights; it's getting hot as Hades out there).
