NFL's Brad Smith launches contest for aspiring fashion designers
When Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Brad Smith isn't busy getting down and dirty on the gridiron, it appears the footballer and apparent fashion enthusiast is looking for ways to stay so fresh and so clean off the field.
Smith has launched "Design for Brad Smith," a competition for aspiring fashion designers.
But don't break out those scissors and thread just yet! To enter, all you have to do is "like" Smith's Facebook fan page, then use pre-selectected swatches from Mood Fabrics as inspiration for your best menswear sketch. Then, upload the sketch, along with a 45-second video detailing how winning would benefit your career.
"I'd tell the participants to keep it simple,"explains Smith, who unconventially began interning last year as a style writer at Men's Health magazine. "I like clean, classic lines, with a bit of an edge. Someone took a chance with me and I always want to pay it forward."
He ain't lying.
The grand prize, which boasts an estimated $20,000 value, includes:
*A one-month internship and chance to score a manufacturing deal with Intricate Concepts Inc. in Manhattan
*One-year brand management representation with Destined for Success Management (D4SM) and six months of branding representation with The Lane Style House
*Professional patterning and production of your design, which Smith will wear as he accompanies you down the red carpet at next month's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week AND model in a photo to appear alongside an editorial in Traffic Magazine
Yowza! How's THAT for a career jumpstart?
And hurry: The entry deadline is 5 p.m. next Thursday, Jan. 23. For the official contest rules and other info, check out the official competition webpage here.
