Off the Rack, one of Pinellas' hidden thrift gems, to close
We've got it pretty good here. Besides great weather (I know I wasn't the only one gragging this week while the rest of the country was fighting to thaw), Tampa Bay's local thrift/consignment/boutique scene is pretty healthy.
Still, it hurts when we lose one.
Off the Rack, in Largo, has been sort of a hidden gem in Pinellas County for years. I stumbled on it a few years ago while stuck in traffic on Ulmerton Road. Smashed between a bunch of other small businesses in a strip mall near, I wandered in and found some great deals. Then I spent the next few years telling people it was worth the venture north, even if it meant braving U.S. 19.(One of my favorite work/play dresses came from there.)
Well, after more than a decade, this little shop is closing. Owner Carrie Pruiett, who now lives in Pasco County and is pursuing an online lingerie and jewelry shop, said she'd like to be out of the location by year's end.
Until then, she's offering sales on everything in sight (including even the fixtures and decor as well as the clothes) Right now, things are 35 to 50 percent off. Cuts will go deeper as the year winds down, she said.
For now, hours at the store (7500 Ulmerton Road #21) reamin the sane: 11-7 Monday through Thursday and 10-5 on Saturdays.
