Penny for your business? JC Penney to introduce one-cent deals
House points to whoever looked at JC Penney's name and saw this new and pretty obvious idea to lure customers.
The company, which closed 40 stores in 2015 and laid off employees, is introducing Penney Days, where certain items will be sold for a penny.
What can you get for one cent? The store won't say, and the deals won't be announced ahead of time.
The idea, to borrow JC Penney jargon, is to "dimensionalize the idea of worth" for its target customer: cool moms.
"We want to be the shopping mecca for the modern American mom," said JCP spokeswoman Mary Beth West in a statement. "We know our customers live very busy lives and we want every trip and interaction at JCPenney to be worth her time, her hard earned money and her effort."
According to Today, the store plans to feature Arizona and JCPenney Home with Penney Days throughout the year. The first run kicked off Sunday.
Will it work? We've wondered if JC Penney can save itself from sputtering sales for a few years now (read Stephanie's passionate defense from 2013).
