Shopping Planner: A Broadway-runway mashup plus our local item of the week

NoMo Nausea

This week in shopping and fashion news:

MAGIC IN THE AIR: THE RUNWAY

We Deal Divas have a confession to make: We love us some Broadway. And now we’ve found an event that caters to our passion for fashion and our love of the Great White Way: The Runway, a Broadway-inspired fashion show benefiting the Tampa Bay Theatre Festival. This theater-themed fundraiser will celebrate the festival’s third year and growing success. Expect designs inspired by hit shows like The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Memphis, Chicago and Wicked. Wicked! This Broadway-runway mashup will feature looks by bay area costume designers and New York Fashion Week alums such as Elizabeth Carson Racker, Gillian Bertrand, Jacqueline Saldana, J’Dari and Jessica Martinez. Some of Tampa Bay’s rising artists will top off the night’s imaginative ensembles with hair and makeup suited for models and actors ready to soak up the spotlight on the red carpet runway. The night also will include a live performance by Broadway actor Jayne Trinette of The Lion King, and the event will be hosted by comedian Pat Gagne and actor Mollyana Ward. Cocktail attire is recommended for an evening full of fun, with a DJ, food, drinks and a whole lot of dancing and mingling in honor of the annual educational and entertainment event at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at CL Space, 1911 N 13th St., Tampa. $30; $40 VIP. 18 and up. (813) 786-1915. tampabaytheatrefestival.com.

ITEM OF THE WEEK: NOMO NAUSEA
Once upon a 1996, my family embarked on a fantasy getaway to the lesser-known islands of the Bahamas. We chartered a 53-foot-long sailboat helmed by Capt. Rick and took off from Miami on a weeklong, wine cooler-fueled adventure. As you can imagine, It. Was. Everything. Well, for most of us anyway. You see, seasickness is real, my friends, and it’s a shame we didn’t have back then what Tampa’s own Jacqueline Darna has invented to prevent and stop nausea instantly. It’s called the NoMo Nausea Band, and it’s dubbed the first and only way to stop nausea, vomiting and migraines naturally and immediately. The NoMo Nausea Band is a latex-free, waterproof acupressure device that’s infused with peppermint essential oils. They look like those bracelets for a cause — the cause being you not hanging over the starboard side in utter misery for days on end. The bands come in a variety of pretty colors and work for adults, kids and even dogs. This means no more morning sickness, no more motion sickness, no more time wasted recovering from a headache. Darna, an anaesthesia provider, came up with the idea while welcoming her second child, which some of us know can come with some less-than-pleasant side effects. When Darna felt sick and no traditional meds would work during or after birth, a nurse offered her peppermint leaves to smell any time she felt nauseated. The light bulb went off when Darna decided to tape some gauze to pressure points on her wrists as well, because let’s face it: Sniffing leaves and caring for a baby are hard to do at once. When Darna realized that no product had ever combined the two natural anti-nausea strategies, voila, the NoMo Nausea Band was born. Ideally, you slip the band on your wrist before your nausea begins, and wear it for as long as you want. When you’re done, just recycle it and wear another. The effects last for 12 to 24 hours after you take off the band, and its scent lasts up to two weeks once the package has been opened. The NoMo Nausea Band was named Star Magazine’s Celebrity Mom Favorite and has qualified for the finals of Tampa’s Start Up Company of the Year.
