Jill Kirsh: The Guru of Hue
Feeling a little bit blah today? Maybe it’s the color you’re wearing. Looking your best often helps you feel your best, and that’s where Jill Kirsh comes in. According to Hollywood’s Guru of Hue, no matter how striking a shade you’re wearing, if it’s wrong for your hair color — not your skin tone; take note — your features will simply get lost.

But feel drab no longer, for Kirsh, who recently moved to Clearwater from Los Angeles, has come up with a solution, developing a color system for clothing and makeup that helps you best accentuate your present hair color. She categorizes as such: deep brunette; warm blonde; golden brown and red; and ash blonde, platinum and gray.

Using her wealth of experience in the fashion and entertainment industries and in consulting with thousands of men and women, including celebrities, Grammy winners, actors, news anchors and business leaders, Kirsh has created a collection of sleek, elegant swatch booklets perfect for packing in your purse that include fabric samples of all the best shades for your hair color group. That means no more guessing while you shop. It also means you can find a $5 top that will make you feel like a goddess, based on color alone.

Kirsh also has developed mineral-based, fragrance-free makeup kits and beautiful scarves available in the proper shades to make your features pop. But the products are only the beginning.

The Guru of Hue also provides demonstrations, offering one-on-one consultations, color parties, seminars and in-store appearances. She’ll show up with her kits and reveal how shades you never expected to love can completely transform your appearance. It’s simple, informative and fun. Imagine gathering your bridal party, sipping on champagne and discovering tones guaranteed to make your big day picture perfect. For pricing and availability, call (727) 754-6719 or visit

Makers’ Mecca: Tampa Bay Etsy Craft Party
Local makers, artisans and vintage sellers will convene Saturday at the St. Petersburg Coliseum for the bay area’s chapter of the worldwide celebration known as the Etsy Craft Party. Organized by the Tampa Bay Etsy Crew, St. Petersburg Greenhouse and Creative Loafing Tampa, the free community event is meant to promote the notion of buying local, to inspire creativity and to help people make connections. Besides a ton of handmade and vintage items for sale, there will be craft demonstrations and make-and-take projects. Get there early: The first 100 through the door get a swag bag from Tampa makers Dark Cycle, known for their fun, animals-on-bicycle designs. A raffle benefits another great local cause, NOMADstudio’s The Art Bus Project — Art for All. The party runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Coliseum, 535 Fourth Ave. N, St. Petersburg. (727) 914-7449.

Finds for Fathers: Michele Tuegel Contemporary
The St. Petersburg craft gallery is a definite go-to for unique finds, so the options for Father’s Day gifts are no different. Bottle openers by Boldhouse and Bruce Baker are stylish enough to display, so much so that it’s hard to distinguish that some of them are actually functional. Emiko Oye’s Lego money clips, right, and cufflinks are fresh takes on otherwise expected gifts and likely conversation starters. If your dad enjoys games, Creative Crafthouse’s wooden, beer- and wine-themed puzzles are a fun choice. You can pick up a card for Dad there, too, and they’re artistic rather than the usual, stereotypical lot. Michele Tuegel Contemporary is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 320 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. (727) 823-1100.
