Shopping Planner: VooDoods, Art Hops and the Fancy Flea
LIMITED EDITION: VOODOODS CHALLENGE WRAP PARTY
Artist Theresa Crout is seriously dedicated to her craft. So much so that every year she challenges herself to create more and more “VooDoods,” funky little voodoo dolls made of polymer clay. She breaks her own record every year, and this year she created 46 pieces in 60 days. As you can see from the photo, each piece is intricately different, making this feat all the more impressive. Every year they have a different theme; this year it’s steampunk. Crout posts a new piece every day on social media, asking people to suggest a name for it. She selects a winner, who then gets registered to win a custom piece at the end of the challenge. The Steampunk VooDoods have their big debut Friday, with a wrap party at the Bricks of Ybor. All the ’Doods will be for sale, and there are art giveaways. It runs from 7-10 p.m. at 1327 E Seventh Ave., Tampa. theresacrout.com.
PARTY IN THE STACKS: ART HOPS AT LARGO PUBLIC LIBRARY
There won’t be any shushing at Largo Public Library on Saturday evening when the library hosts its annual Art Hops fundraiser right there in the book stacks. The event brings in a mini art and crafts festival to shop with more than 30 artists and artisans, including Zen Glass, whose bowls are shown above, and fine artist Steven Kenny. Add local craft beer (hence the hops), bites from local restaurants, a scavenger hunt with prizes and live music, and you have a party. Tickets are $25, on sale at the library and at gllf.org. Proceeds go to the library’s bookmobile. The party runs from 6-10 p.m. at 120 Central Park Drive. (727) 586-7398.
