Stomachs, sleeves and capes: A Golden Globes red carpet recap
It's always disconcerting when celebrities start trotting out a trend such as "skin cutouts around the abdomen," because it means inevitably the rest of the normal sandwich-eating world will get brainwashed into thinking "Maybe I should wear stomach cut-outs, too..." And before we know it, Forever 21 has a line of formalwear made from non-fraying poly-nylon with star-shaped ravines around the navel, and girls all over the country are getting sent home from school wearing an XXL school mascot sweater from 1987.

Other trends on Sunday's Golden Globes red carpet: Lots of white and gold and shades of pale; sleeves; off-the-shoulder necklines, a la Pretty in Pink; CAPES. Nothing satisfies the heart like a well-placed cape. It smacks of heroism! Perhaps next year front-facing capes will make an appearance and we won't have to see so many toned abs.
