Your wedding dress doesn't have to cost $1 billion (or $1,000)
Nine months after my wedding, I'm not looking to buy a new white ivory dress anytime soon. Unfortunately for me, neither the Internet nor my favorite stores know about this, and both are pelting me lately with crazy cute and affordable wedding dresses that are pretty useless to me.
I thought if I told you about them the universe would let this former bride live.
The exclusive retailer of New Girl's Jessica Day is going all-in on affordable wedding looks lately, from dresses to shoes to gifts to jewelry (just like I went all-in on what we in the journalism biz decry as a false range).
I struggled to find one over $300. The short and sassy back on the $175 Wedding Belle dress (has the name of a Modcloth item ever been so straightforward?) and long, modern lace of $250 Perennial Poise were some of my favorites.
Bridesmaid looks are covered too, though the prices are closer to what a lot of maids pony up for the ceremony. You've got bold, flared fucshia ($175), the long, grey and strapless All Award dress that would look great with a bold bouquet ($125), and the seriously adorable lilac buy-it-even-if-you-aren't-a-bridesmaid Beloved and Beyond dress ($175).
The Swedish retailer announced it will introduce three wedding dresses that are affordable AND responsibly made next week, April 7. The dresses are part of H&M's Conscious Exclusive collection inspired by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and H&M says its wedding dresses are "for the bride wanting to be as beautifully dressed as she is conscious."
Basically H&M is getting really fancy, and I don't know if we're ready for it, but maybe for a wedding it works.
My favorite is the one in the slideshow, a rippled, structured floor-length gown for the sensible chic bride. According to Buzzfeed, the three dresses will cost $550.
Goodwill bridal sale
And if you really want to clean up, the date of Goodwill's annual gown sale bears repeating.
The sale is Friday, April 22. It opens at 6 a.m. at the new Goodwill store at 16432 U.S. Highway 19 in Clearwater.
No dress is priced above $400, which is a steal in bride world when you're looking at brands like Allure and Maggie Sottero. Many of the wedding and cocktail dresses were donated by CC's Bridal Boutique, where three friends have purchased their dresses within the past two years.
