Wesley Chapel's Hamui signs with Florida
GAINESVILLE - Wesley Chapel native Johnny Hamui has signed a letter of intent to play tennis for Florida.
"Johnny is clearly one of the top recruits in the nation and we could not be more excited for him to be a Gator," UF coach Andy Jackson. "Frankly, we are very thrilled about all the prospects for next year. However, our focus right now is to finish this year very strong."
Hamui, who attends Saddlebrook Prep School, recently advanced to the finals of the 2007 Easter Bowl in Rancho Mirage, Calif., where he was defeated by Rhyne Williams (6-4, 6-2) in the boys under-18 singles
division. The final, was a rematch of the round of 16 encounter at the 2006 Easter Bowl, won by Hamui in three sets.
By virtue of his appearance in the finals of the Easter Bowl, Hamui will also compete in the main draw of the junior events at the French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open. He is currently ranked No. 26 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Rankings.
