Tampa's A.J. Jones named to All-SEC Freshman team
Former Middleton standout A.J. Jones is among four Florida players selected to the coaches SEC All-Freshman team, announced Thursday afternoon. It is the largest number of Gators on the all-rookie team since 2003, when the Gators had seven. Jones played in all 12 games this sesson, ranking eighth on the team in tackles with 33. He also saw time on special teams as a member of the kickoff team. He reached his career mark for tackles twice in 2007, with six tackles in the Auburn and Florida Atlantic contests. Jones earned 2 ½ tackles for loss and had his first career sack against South Carolina. Nine of the SEC teams are represented on the team. Auburn had a league-high six selections, Arkansas and Florida had three each. Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno was chosen Freshman of the Year. - Antonya English, Times staff writer
