Gator gymnast earns conference honors
It's been a big week so far for the Florida gymnastics team. The Gators took over the No. 1 position in the nation and sophomore Melanie Sinclair was named the SEC gymanst of the week on Tuesday.
Sinclair matched her collegiate-best all-around total of 39.525 to win the season-opener last
Friday against Illinois-Chicago. That all-around total also shares the nation's high mark of the season so far. It was the second all-around win for Sinclair, who also opened the 2007 season by claiming the
Super Six Challenge title. Sinclair has competed four times during her collegiate career as an all-arounder, winning two titles and taking second in the other two outings.
She shared two other event titles Friday - uneven bars (9.925) and balance beam (9.875). The bar win was her ninth as a Gator and it was her second beam title. She earned All-America first team honors in both events in 2007.
No. 1 Florida will host No. 2, and three-time defending national champion Georgia on Friday night at the O'Connell Center.
