Florida basketball's Adam Allen may be out for the season

Florida forward Adam Allen underwent knee surgery Tuesday morning, and is most likely out for the season, coach Billy Donovan said.

Allen suffered a stress fracture in his knee on Oct. 24 and has not played in a game this season. Donovan said the knee was nearly healed, but Allen had some scar tissue behind his kneecap that was scarring and causing pain. Doctors decided to perform surgery to "clean it out.''

He could return by the middle of January, but would still have huge conditioning issues.

"Right now, the feeling for us and for Adam is that he would use this year to redshirt,'' Donovan said. "By some reason, if there was a miraculous recovery and he was able to get back and in some way through practice was able to show us that he could help our team and he wanted to play, then we would play him. The decision to play right now, where it's at, is going to be up to he and his family, and I'm
going to support whatever they choose to do. We have no anticipation as a staff that he's going to be back this year."

Allen shot 42.1 percent from 3-point range as a freshman reserve last season.
