Meyer: Gator play-calling not a one-man show
While he is consulting with his staff about the possibility of playing in the BCS national championship game without offensive coordinator Dan Mullen, UF coach Urban Meyer said the Gator offense is uniquely set up so that many are involved in the play-calling.
So if the decision is made that Mullen will move on to his new head coaching job at Mississippi State before the game, it wouldn't be catastrophic.
"The good thing about a guy like Dan, he's very professional,'' Meyer said. "The other thing is we have a very veteran quarterback. Offensively, we're a little different than maybe some programs, where the coordinator calls a lot of the plays. We script every series, between plays, between series there's a great discussion. I have a very talented offensive staff and I'm very involved. It'd be different if that was a one-man show and it's certainly not. It's a group of very talented coaches and the head coach is very involved in the offensive side of the ball. So our big issue will not be that. It'll be trying to block the team on the other side."
