Florida guard Nick Calathes posts triple-double in win over Georgia
Sophomore guard Nick Calathes posted a triple-double Wednesay night in an 83-57 win over Georgia at the O'Connell Center.
Calathes had 20 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in the game. It was the second triple-double of his career and only the third in school history.
“It’s a huge accomplishment,’’ Calathes said. “I’m proud of doing it, but honestly I would take a 26-point win in SEC play any day because our main goal is to win an SEC championship. I share it with my teammates. I couldn’t have done it without them.’’
Calathes also had a triple-double last season - 11 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists.
Forward Corey Brewer had thefirst triple-double in Florida history on Dec. 18, 2005. He had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists in a 101-58 win over Jacksonville University.
Florida coach Billy Donovan wasn't ready to annoint Calathes as the best guard he's ever coached, but agreed Calathes could be among the best.
"I've been fortunate to coach some talented guys,'' Donovan said. "He has an incredible drive and work ethic that is second to none. . . . He's got the drive to be among the greatest I've ever coached. He makes the game easier for other guys around him.''
