Georgia fires coach Dennis Felton

Less than 24 hours after his team's 26-point loss at Florida, Georgia coach Dennis Felton has been fired.

Assistant coach Peter Herrmann will take over the team for the remainder of the season.

"It's not a good day for Georgia athletics,'' Herrmann said Thursday morning on the SEC teleconference, shortly after the announcement that he is the interim coach. . . "This is not a good situation for our staff here. Obvioulsy we think the world of Coach Felton. He's the reason why we're here.''

Felton's dismissal means the SEC has now lost two coaches this week.  Alabama coach Mark Gottfried abruptly resigned after 11 seasons at Alabama.

Felton was 85-90 in his sixth season at Georgia.
