When Florida coach Urban Meyer arrived in Gainesville four years ago, he said he relished the opportunity to scale back his recruiting effots.

You see, at Utah, Meyer had to recruit nationally to get good talent. When he arrived at Florida, he said the state was so talent-rich, he wouldn't need to recruit all over the country.

But it turns out, the Gators are still recruiting across the nation. The 2009 class includes players from California, Indianapolis, Connecticut, Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina and New Jersey.

"I sometimes concern myself with stepping over three or four players to go and get another guy,but our track record is pretty good,'' Meyer said. Carlos Dunlap, Brandon Spikes, and all the New Jersey kids (currently on the roster) are all playing for us. Josh Evans is another one. Connecticut has been a place where we have done some good recruiting. We recruit Florida, Georgia, Texas, and now Connecticut. All of those guys have been having great success so we only go if there is a connection or if there is a need. We don't mass recruit. We don't send a guy out and say go saturate an area, we do very good in the Virginia area, we have a good reputation in D.C. and also in New Jersey.''
