DUI charges against Stephen Locke dropped
The Gainesville State Attorney's office has dropped charges of Driving Under the Influence against former UF baseball player Stephen Locke, citing lack of evidence to support police allegations.
Locke was arrested on Jan. 24, and police alleged in a report he had been seen driving erratically, that his speech was slurred and that he had to balance himself against his SUV. The police report also alleged he had croosed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic, before crossing back into his own lane.
But Cervone said video from the police car did not substantiate those allegations. On the videotape, Locke does not appear to slur, and told officers he may have had one drink, but was actually the designated driver, Cervone said.
Locke, 22, was expected to be a vital part of the Gators' pitching rotation this season, but was dismissed from the team after his arrest. As of Monday morning, Florida officials said they have not determined whether Locke's status with the team will be reevaluated.
