Florida DL Torrey Davis no longer a Gator

Florida sophomore DL Torrey Davis has left the football program for personal reasons, Florida athletic officials confirmed Friday.

The former Armwood standout played in eight games last season, registering seven tackles - 6 solo, and one assisted. Davis also had a touchdown-saving tackle in the BCS National Championship game against Oklahoma.

But his career has been plagued by trouble. Davis struggled both on and off the field during his freshman year, and was suspended four games at the beginning of the 2008 season. But Florida coach Urban Meyer said after the national championship game he believed Davis was maturing and he had high hopes the 20-year-old might finally be turning things around.

Davis was rated the No. 1 prospect in Florida by Rivals.com coming out of Armwood, and was considered the ninth-best best prospect nationally in the Rivals.com 100.
