Restraining order against Johnson to be dismissed
The UF female student who filed a restraining order against offensive lineman Carl Johnson has filed for a dismissal of the action, according to court records.
Johnson was arrested last month on charges he violated the restraining order by riding on the same campus bus as the woman, but those charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence. He was scheduled to make an April 7 court appearance on the restraining order, which remained in effect.
The file for dismassal brings to an end the legal issues surrounding a strange saga between Johnson and the former girlfriend, who had accused him of sexually assaulting her on three occassions while they were dating, and told police she feared he might try to harm her. She withdrew a sexual battery complaint on Feb. 4.
Johnson is participating in spring football drills, and although all legal charges against him are dismissed, he still faces possible disciplinary action by the UF Student Judicial Affairs committee.
Florida coach Urban Meyer said following Monday's practice that Johnson is in good standing with him and the team.
"His whole issue is he's got to make sure he's straight with the University,'' Meyer said. "I had a long discussion with him and his family about what happened. Carl Johnson hasn't been a major problem since he's been here. I have a lot of respect for him and his family. And if he's done something wrong, he knows there will be a heck of a price to pay. But he's in good standing.''
